From chatbots and virtual assistants to machine translation and sentiment analysis, NLP technologies are now being used in a wide variety of applications across a range of industries. With the increasing demand for technologies that can process human language, investors have been eager to get a piece of the action. In this article, we look at NLP start-up funding over the past year, identifying the applications and domains that have received investment. New York-based Blackbird.AI has closed a $10 million Series A as it prepares to launched the next version of its disinformation intelligence platform this fall. The Series A is led by Dorilton Ventures, along with new investors including Generation Ventures, Trousdale Ventures, StartFast Ventures and Richard Clarke, former chief counter-terrorism advisor for the National Security Council. Existing investor NetX also participated. Blackbird says it'll be used to scale up to meet demand in new and existing markets, including by expanding its team and spending more on product dev. The 2017-founded startup sells software as a service targeted at brands and enterprises managing risks related to malicious and manipulative information -- touting the notion of defending the "authenticity" of corporate marketing.

The pandemic has changed how folks operate, forcing human resources leaders to wager AI and other new technology and procedures that encourage a more flexible, adaptive, and fluid work force. There were "seismic shifts" in how organizations function, based on Sage's recent poll of 500 senior HR and individuals leaders. A third of those HR leaders said they're changing the way they employ by building greater candidate encounters for candidates, on-boarders, and new joiners and focusing on labor adventures. While 24 percent of organizations are using AI for recruiting, that amount is predicted to increase, with 56% reporting that they intend to embrace AI in the following calendar year. Sage's findings indicate a steady expansion through time, whilst Gartner's Artificial Intelligence Survey in March 2020 discovered that 17 percent of associations used AI-based talent control methods in 2019.

Property technology, often abbreviated as proptech, is becoming increasingly commonplace around the Asia Pacific (APAC) in recent years, and certain factors are set to see proptech truly takeoff. An excellent example of proptech disrupting traditional property investor tools is the AI-powered platform, OfficeBlocks. Deep learning models like Google's BERT and the new OpenAI GPT-3 have brought machines much closer to approximating human understanding. The keyword here is "approximating" because these deep learning models don't actually understand the text they see. While not perfect, they have become much better at predicting what words might come next in a given sentence or search string. Does this mean we're getting close to true artificial intelligence (AI)? Not yet, although machines will soon be able to do the heavy lifting when it comes to data analysis so that all we will have to do is step in and interpret the results.
